This application’s name aims to throw a little light onto what it can do. The “screensaver” part indicates that this application is not a media player for example, but a screensaver. The “digital” part aims to show that it is made up of various digital images; and the “swirls” part indicates that the aforementioned digital images depict “swirly colorful psychedelic effects designed to entrance you and take you into another dimension” as the developer says.

Here’s my explanation of what Digital Swirls Screensaver is. This is a classic slideshow screensaver offered free of charge for Windows users. The screensaver displays a swirly image for 10 seconds, then moves to another, displays that one for 10 seconds, then moves on to another image. The screensaver goes through a total of 20 images. When moving from one image to another, it uses various transition effects.

You can customize the way this screensaver works from the settings pane. Here’s what you can do:
- Adjust the time the images will be displayed; by default the images will be displayed for 10 seconds before moving to the next image.
- Select the order in which the images will be displayed.
- Select what transition effects the screensaver will use when switching from one image to another. There are a myriad of effects to go through.
- Select the speed of the transition effects.
- Adjust the screensaver’s behavior. You can for example set it so the screensaver will exit only when you press the ESC key.
- Enable the “Start image painting on Desktop” option. When the “Start image painting on Desktop” option is selected, the screensaver doesn’t just show up; it uses a transition effect to pop in.

Supported OS – at the time of writing this and according to the developer, Digital Swirls Screensaver provides support for Windows 95, 98, 2000, ME, NT, Windows XP and Windows Vista. Tested the screensaver on Windows 7 and it seems to work fine on this Windows version as well.
Limitations – there are none since this application is freeware. You can use it free of charge for as long as you want.
